Located on the third floor of the Winston Medical Center, the Turning Point inpatient mental health program addresses the emotional and behavior needs of adults 55 and older.  Through a combination of therapies, education, and medication evaluation, Turning Point encourages patients to regain as much independence as they can and lead the fullest life possible.  Symptoms or lifestyle changes that may indicate a need for referral to Turning Point include: 

  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Confusion
  • Hallucinations
  • Paranoia
  • Anxiety
  • Detox (Alcohol/Prescription Drugs)


Turning Point recognizes that each person has unique needs, which is why an individually-tailored treatment plan is developed for each patient.  Each person is treated for their psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs through a broad variety of challenging and stimulating daily programs and activities that include: 

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Recreational activities
  • Family therapy
  • Coping and problem solving skills
  • Grief and loss therapy
  • Stress management
  • Continued care planning
  • Medication management
  • Occupational/Physical Therapy


The Turning Point Treatment Team consists of healthcare professionals who provide caring, comprehensive, and individualized treatment to each patient admitted.  Each member is trained to deal with the unique needs and concerns of older adults.  The Turning Point Treatment Team includes:

  • Psychiatrist
  • Program Director
  • Physical Therapist
  • Social Services
  • Activity Therapist
  • Registered Nurses
  • Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Mental Health Technicians


Physicians, healthcare professionals, home health agencies, nursing homes, senior living centers, family members, or self referrals may be made to Turning Point by contacting the program directly at 662-779-0173.  A confidential assessment and treatment options are made available in the person's home, care facility, or at Turning Point at no charge.


Turning Point Services for qualified patients are covered by Medicare and certain pre-approved HMO’s and private insurance.
