Fluency disorders are more prevalent in young males than females.  Dysfluencies should be evaluated at any age the child or family expresses concern about stuttering symptoms.  Stuttering can be distinguished from normal childhood dysfluencies through assessment of spontaneous speech.  If a fluency disorder is diagnosed, age appropriate therapy is available for preschool through adult populations.
