First Patient Admitted to Transitional Facility!

First patient admitted to Winston Medical Center Transitional Facility
Date issued:  April 1, 2015
The Winston Medical Center Transitional Facility, located at 923 South Church Avenue, opened its doors on April 1, 2015 with the transfer of Mr. Terry Holder from the Temporary Hospital.
“When Terry was first admitted, we had to go to the Temporary Hospital.  There were no private baths or television service and a curtain was the only privacy you had.  You don’t realize what you have until it’s gone.  The next morning, around 6:00 a.m. we were moved to the new Transitional Facility where we were pleased to find a private room with its own bathroom, a television and furniture that was extremely comfortable,” said Linda Holder, spouse of Mr. Terry Holder.
“The move to the Transitional Facility is the next step on our road to recovery.  By doing this we are to bring back our Turning Point, Mammography, and CT services.  This allows us to offer the same range of services we were providing before the April 28 tornado.  While the new facility and new equipment are great additions, one thing that has not changed is the dedicated and professional staff of Winston Medical Center.  The fact still remains that ‘It’s What’s on the Inside that Counts’.” stated Paul Black, CEO.
“For the past eleven months, we have worked out of tents.  Coming to the transitional facility is another step in our recovery process.  We are thankful for the Temporary Hospital that we have called our home since the tornado.  Today, all hospital and emergency room services are under one roof, we are no longer separated,” said Lori Roberts, Case Manager.
By 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, over 20 patients had visited the new Transitional Facility for services.  “People are happy to be able to stay local for healthcare.  They are happy to be in a facility that provides a more normal hospital environment.  So many of our patients have been pleased with the looks of the Transitional Facility,” said Carol Ward, Admissions Clerk.
“This facility helps bring normalcy to healthcare in our community”, said Terry Holder.  “We were surprised how large this facility is and how nice things are.The staff of Winston Medical Center has done an exceptional job and we were happy that we were able to stay local for our healthcare needs,” said Mr. Holder.
“We are delighted to open this facility.  The facility has already received high praise from local people during the Open House on March 29, 2015.  Plans to rebuild at the East Main Street location are underway.  A design of the new facility is hanging in the Transitional Facility for people who would like to take a look at the future,” said Paul Black, CEO.
