The Residents at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home enjoyed a Wild West Day during August.  Residents were able to rope a display calf that was brought by Brandy Young, Activity Assistant.  The staff and residents dressed in western attire and wore cowboy hats. The entire Activity Room had displays of western themes to include hay bales, corn stalks, bandannas, iron works, cowboy artwork, and a calf roper. 

“The day was very interesting because so many of the residents had never roped before and then there was others who had,” stated Brandi Young. “I have rode horses my entire life and raised my children to be rodeo kids.”  “I saw that our Activity Director had planned a Wild West Day and felt that this would add a lot of excitement to our Residents,” Young said. Young spent the afternoon demonstrating how to properly rope and then allowed the Residents to try. 

“I enjoy barrel racing and have never been a roper but I have grown up in the rodeo life where roping is a huge sport.  I got a lot of joy bringing this opportunity into the nursing home for our Residents,” stated Young.

After an afternoon full of rodeo sport activities, Residents topped the evening off with a Cowboy cake, cookies, chips, and cactus punch.  The Activity staff at Winston Medical Center gave feed sacks for door prizes to all the Residents that consisted of cowboy snacks.
