WMC kicks of National Hospital and Skilled Care Week!

National Hospital Week Puts Spotlight on People, Louisville, MS –
Winston Medical Center is celebrating both National Hospital Week and National Skilled Nurse Care Week.
A hospital is more than a place where people go to heal, it is a part of the community that fosters health and represents hope. From providing treatment and comfort to the sick,  to education, to some hospitals bringing babies into the world, hospitals are central to a healthy and optimistic community. That’s the message organizers are touting with the 2019 National Hospital Week theme “Celebrating Hope and Healing.
Skilled Nursing Care Week is established as an annual, week-long observance by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, NSNCW, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, provides an opportunity to recognize the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s frail, elderly, and disabled.  This year’s theme is, “Live Soulfully”, and will  celebrate skilled nursing centers, and their residents and staff, by showcasing how they achieve happy minds and healthy souls.
”The event themes, announced this week, is the centerpiece of a promotional campaign aimed at uniting health care facilities across the country during the May 12–18 celebration.  “National Hospital Week and Skilled Care Week, first and foremost, is a celebration of people,” Paul Black, CEO of Winston Medical Center, said. “We’re extremely proud of each member of our staff and we recognize the important role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and our communities.
”The nation’s largest health care event, National Hospital Week dates back to 1921 when it was suggested by a magazine editor who hoped a community wide celebration would alleviate public fears about hospitals. The celebration, launched in Chicago, succeeded in promoting trust and goodwill among members of the public and eventually spread to facilities across the country.
A full slate of activities is planned for 2019 at Winston Medical Center, including: coffee/donuts, staff talent contest, ice cream and sno-cone social, and a hamburger cookout.
Mayor Will Hill joined the staff of Winston Medical Center this morning to kick off the week by signing a proclamation.
